7-11 September 2017 BOZAR, Brussels Ilona Kiss’ work is strongly influenced by dreams and nightmares, collective memory, and the question of place and belonging. The poetic qualities of uncertain situations influence her work as such and connect with traditional genres like Romanticism. Her work is drawn to ambiguity and she is interested in the tension between the familiar and the weird, and the real and the imaginary. Darkness and a sense of sadness surface in her work. Biography Ilona Kiss was born in Zürich, Switzerland and lives in Manchester, UK. She completed an MA in Fine Art at the Manchester School of Art in 2013. Her work was included in group exhibitions at ArtWorks Open 2010, Barbican Arts Group Trust in London (selected by Graham Crowley and Timothy Hyman), School of Arts Vol. lll at the HfBK in Dresden, Germany 2013, Anonyme Zeichner, Galerie Nord/Kunstverein Tiergarten, Berlin 2013 and 2015. Her work was selected for the Saatchi New Sensations show in London 2013 and was featured in the best of the year selection of works from Saatchi online. In 2014, she was involved in ‘Optima Mihi in Chartis’, a group show at the Galerie Römerapotheke in Zürich. Her work was selected for the Griffin Gallery Open in 2015, the group show ‘The Collection of Small Paintings’ at the Contemporary London and the Neo:Artprize. In 2016, her work was selected for the BEEP Wales Painting Prize and the Royal Scottish Academy Open.
